Checkin’ in

Posted by Joel on December 4th, 2008 filed in General stuff

Hey all.  Thursday evening and ready to watch some football this evening.  I don’t have much to report on my end.  Thanksgiving went well.  It was great to see the turnout.  We had more food than we knew what to do with and many friends to share the day.  Thanksgiving has always been one of my favorite holidays and this year was no exception.  Hope all of yours went well also.

Thanks to John Church, and Mark and Denise Hagan for the Purdue/Duke B-ball tickets this past week.  It has been awhile since I’ve been inside Mackey Arena.  It was a full house and very loud.  I did my best for the victory but we came up short.  I’m not sure who coined the name “ACC – Big Ten Challenge”, but I think it has only been a challenge from the Big Ten’s perspective as they have yet to win a year.  With their victory over Purdue, Duke pushed it’s record to 10-0 all time in the “challenge”.  UNC wasn’t too challenged last night with its 35pt victory on the road to Michigan State either.  Although in fairness, I’m not sure they’ll get challenged much this year either as they look pretty good.

Have booked a trip to Las Vegas for next weekend.  It seemed like a good idea and was being pushed by a couple of really good friends.  I couldn’t come up with any reason not too.  Craig and I have already scouted out the poker games/locations, I’m sure it will be a large time.  I’m not sure he and I will know what to do with ourselves being in a sports book on an NFL weekend.  It’ll be like 4 straight days of Christmas for us.

I know that many have inquired, but we are well.  We are taking this in stride and living every day.  We know that we aren’t bullet proof but, April and I lean on each other for strength.  I think Daphne is concerned with me losing my  hair and the other two haven’t really said much to me about their concerns.  I talk about it to them as much as they are willing and curious.  But they too, don’t dwell upon this and more often would rather just play the wii.  The kids crack me up.

I don’t know much more and will check in again soon.

Joel

I told you I would be thinking of good things and I have 5. One good thing is that I get to pray for you everyday during the moment of silence at school. I am not glad you are sick but am glad I feel closer to you by praying.

    Love,
    Mackenzie!

Hope you had a good weekend. We enjoyed your kids at the museum yesterday. I sat by Daphne, Madison and Rachel. I heard some of Daphne’s knock-knock jokes and chicken crossing the road. My favorite was the skeleton didn’t have any guts. I learned that Madison and Rachel want to work together and take care of the animals. It was an enjoyable lunch. I don’t know any news unless you want to hear about Maggie. Hope to see you soon. Paula

    Joel,
I have been following your progress over your website the last couple of weeks. We are praying and pulling for you everyday. Sorry, I missed you Saturday night, Kyle said you stopped over shortly after we left that evening. Sounds like you guys have a big trip planned for this weekend. You’re a good man, hang in there, we will be thinking about you. Talk to you later.

Would like to know where you are staying in Vegas? I will be there this weekend also and will give you some sportsbook tips. Please advise, I will be staying at the MGM Grand, partying at The Bar at Times Square in NYNY Hotel Casino. Seriously, I will be praying for you also but I would like to know the above info.

    Thanks,

Goins and I have sold the remaining shares in the Bidness Co. and are planning a roadtrip to take you out on the town Saturday Jan.3rd!

We were thinking dinner, drinks, Pacers, drinks, waffle house, drinks. Well maybe one to many drinks in there somewhere, but we’ll play it by ear.

So far we have Holt(s) Rob, Brent, Moreland, Me and Goins coming up. Got a suite for 6 Saturday night so pack a bag!

    Joel and April,
Just wanted you to know that we enjoyed your kids at McCormick’s Creek this weekend. We especially enjoyed meeting the turtle, “$5.00”. That is so priceless! Hope you’re doing okay. Talk to you later. Love, Paula

    Hey Joel,

Just wanted to tell you how much we all enjoyed your kids at McCormick’s Creek. Being with them energizes me so much but I was tired on Monday. It has taken me this long to write. We had Madison with us when we picked up Rachel, Daphne and Vincent so there was talking a mile a minute before they got seated and for the whole trip.
Rachel immediately told me about Vincent’s turtle’s name. So thought I’d write it here so everyone knows. It is a great story. Their aunt Teresa bought them each a new stuffed animal, Vincent’s was a turtle. They asked Teresa if they were already named and she told them that the animal’s names are on the tag around them.–just like Webkids. So when Vincent opened his turtle the tag on its back said “$5.00”. So, Vincent named him ‘five dollars’.
He is so serioius and precious. However it then became a quasi game for we adults, whenever we saw Vincent and his turtle the (supposed) adult would ask “Vincent, what is your turtle’s name” Without slowing down, Vincent would say ‘ Five dollars’.

    Terrific story.

Dad and I enjoyed watching Daphne and Vincent sing/perform in their Christmas program, yesterday. Daphne was in the third row and sang her part well. Vincent was dressed as an elf on the front row and knew all the motions and words. He also knows how to take a grand bow. They were both great.

    Love,
    Mother
