Sunny Saturday

Hey all.  Saturday afternoon and am currently watching Purdue take a whipping at OSU.  I’ve spent the past 2 weeks traveling and seeing friends.  I made a trip out to Waterloo, IA with Craig.  He was on business and I was on play.  Got to see an old friend, played some golf and played some cards.  It has probably been 12 years since I was in Waterloo.  I’d like to say it hasn’t changed, but that is not the case.  Most of the town was familiar but I kept getting turned around and wasn’t much of a co-pilot for my driver.  It was a good trip and I enjoyed visiting with Jeremy Brown.

This week Craig and I went to New Albany, IN and played cards for 3 days.  It was a profitable trip but more importantly, we enjoyed ourselves as we always seem to find a way to do.  We spent most of our time sitting at the Omaha tables, making the occasional bluff and trying not to get caught.  For the most part we were successful.  We walked away holding our own as well as a little of theirs and created a few stories to tell amongst ourselves in the process.

Sandwiched in between those trips, was the boilermaker game last saturday.  Fortunately for me, the fun-meter has zero to do with the final scoreboard.  We caught great weather for an October day and had a ball.  It was great to be able to see the Church family after the game.  I take issue with my wife calling me a “novice tailgater”.  I’ll have you know that I’ve drained many batteries in my life listening to music with friends.  I have loads of experience getting dead batteries up and going again.

It was nice getting back home after a couple of hectic weeks.  We caught a large amount of blue skys and sunshine today.  The kids and I carved our jack-o-lanterns this afternoon and made a couple of pumpkin pies.  We’re getting into the halloween spirit and looking forward to that night.

My thoughts go to Trent Moss and his family as he lost his father last night.  His dad had been sick for some time, but that doesn’t seem to make it any less painful.  A few prayers are being sent in his direction for comfort.

On the medical side of things, we’ve scheduled our PET Scan for November 25th.  If all things check out properly, it’s our goal to be in surgery in early December.  We’ll spend 2 weeks in the hospital and be home in time for Christmas is our general thinking.  November is the next step in our journey.  Until then, we’ll just continue on our current path.  Living life to its fullest.  Talk to you soon.

I think you had a beautiful day for carving Jack-O-Lanterns. I am curious about your background making pumpkin pies with the pumpkin pulp.(something I have never done) We had a friend who was undertaking cooking pumpkin for pies. She sat the pumpkin in the oven and turned the oven on. They bought a new stove after the pumpkin exploded in the oven. Since you carved you pumpkins, I trust you didn’t have to buy a new stove. How were the pies? I’m glad to know of the November date for the PET Scan. We’ll keep praying as that approaches. Paula

That was a little misleading. Yes, we did carve the pumpkins but we made the pies from the canned stuff. Our pumpkin pulp went in the garbage as I don’t trust my cooking skills that much. You’ll be happy to know our ovens are still intact.

    Hey Joel,

Thanks for the update. Your trips to Waterloo and New Albany AND Purdue sound sensational. BEST of all, though, is hearing about the Halloween jack-o-lanterns and the pumpkin pies you made with Rachel and Daphne and Vincent !!!I’m sure it was tons of fun for them.
